Otway Fly announces new ZIP Line Adventures

Otway Fly Tree Top Walk has announced today the construction of a new and exciting Zip Lining Adventure Tour through the rainforest due for launch early October 2010. Zip Lining a relatively new action eco adventure activity using cables suspended between trees throughout the forest.  People are harnessed then attached to the cable as they zip through the canopy between nine ‘cloud stations’

“This is extremely exciting, not only is it a wonderful adventure that showcases the rainforest, and provides an adrenalin fuelled activity for visitors to the Great Ocean Road, with its unique features it is also the first of its type to be built in the world” says Elaine Burridge GM Otway Fly Tree Top Walk.

The whole tour will extend the tree tops experience to between 3-4 hours.  “We expect this new activity to increase international visitation considerably to the region and bring many visitors from Melbourne and also Australia wide” says Burridge.

The activity will require substantial staffing with approximately 20 extra staff to be employed. This will bring a boom to the local economy.  “This is huge for the area” says Burridge “not only will it bring extra employment to the region it will also bring increased spend to the local businesses”.  Extensive training and ongoing employment will provide ongoing benefits to the area.

To cater to the expected increase in visitation, the Otway Fly visitor information centre and cafe will also be expanded. The existing undercover outdoor pavilion, and walk in area, will be enclosed to encompass two zip line fit out rooms and the training centre.  “There will be a major expansion to the Otway Fly facilities which will bring further spend with local trade people and builders” Burridge says

“The Otway fly is an iconic destination along the Great Ocean Road, and is the highest and longest steel structured tree top canopy walkway of its type in the world ” says Burridge.  “The Springboard cantilever bounces gently high over picturesque Young's Creek and provides a bird’s eye view of the temperate forest”.

“We’ve been working hard to bring a new attraction to The Otway Fly. We attract many return visitors and it’s fantastic to offer something new and exciting to see and do” Elaine Burridge, General Manager, Otway Fly Tree Top Walk says.  “We have introduced abseiling from the steel structure, and look forward to the addition of the Zip Line to the Otway fly”. Otway Fly Tree Top Walk took out the Merit Award for the "Tourist Attraction" category at the Tourism Victoria Awards in November 2009.
